Nice to be appreciated, isn't it?

While the intention of having a blog had always been there,
It's the contest that had triggered the single step.. And a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Now the blog is equipped with the news of English activities (which are a lot!), online teaching / marking documents for the lecturers (which is very convenient considering they can access and update the students' marks anytime anywhere), as well as students venue to view their performance (carry marks and final exam results) for English paper.

So, kudos to the ACTION RESEARCH UNIT for the momentum and their brilliant idea!

Bon Voyage!

Words don’t come easy to us when it comes to speaking on an occasion like this. All throughout our school life, we've seen batches of students being bade farewell by the school and in all those times, we've feared the day when it's the teachers themselves who will be among those stepping out of the doors of this institution for ever. Today, the time seems to have come for us too soon.
Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean we'll miss you until we meet again.
We, at Keningau Vocational will definitely miss you the dedicated English lecturer, the ferocious warden, brothers to the peer lecturers and 'papa' to most of the students. Adios, Mr. Mohd Sharazi Zulkeffli!

Independent learning

At vocational college, we're determined to give ample opportunities for students to practice what they learn in real life. Lecturers are merely facilitators to monitor their progress, and guide them whenever necessary. We don't believe in spoon feeding which lead to dependency. We treat our trainees as adults although they're just 16 years old, with the hope they'll mature and fully blossom prior graduation.
In the picture, catering and baking trainees help the team to prepare some delish drinks and food. The experience they might not even get at home, let alone other typical schools which put emphasise on examinations.

One word : brilliant!

So the college had a graduation ceremony today. It's genius that the photoshoot is done right after they received their prizes.

We love you

Little did the students know how much the lecturers actually care about them.

Another initiative by Mr Khalifa helps to deliver the heartfelt messages to the last batch of SPM students.

That's the spirit!

Don't we just love those who are passionate in what they're doing?

I was surprised too when these students were so thrilled to fill up their names for the sports tournament. They exceeded the quota but I've no heart to turn their passion and eagerness down.

Ps. They prefer to use English terms than Malay's. E.g. 'hurdles' than 'lompat pagar'. Didn't know they're that proficient!

Go the extra mile

Under vocational college, we always value students' efforts, anytime, anywhere. As instance, in the recent English paper, one of the students didn't just elaborate the provided points, but she even came up with a point from the heart. It was so sincere that we almost cried.

Don't we all love extra tips, especially the one which is written from the core of the heart?

Speak Your Mind!

At Keningau Vocational, we believe that a community of learners must celebrate students’ strengths, interests and abilities. They need significant opportunities to have their broad and diverse views expressed. Thus, one of the ways is to grant a place (or two) where they can share their wonderful and brilliant thoughts with the college's community.

The form 5 seniors are no longer participating in the co-curricular activities. We're sad that the seniors are no longer around, however, that don't stop us from having fun.

We have Family Feud to fill up the society's slot. So you know, Family Feud is an American game show in which two families compete against each other in a contest to name the most popular responses to a survey question posed to 100 people.

‘Past best practices’ incorporated in teaching English in schools

KOTA KINABALU: Newly-appointed Deputy Education Minister Datuk Mary Yap has suggested that “past best practices’, including prioritising aspects of grammar be incorporated into school teac
hing methods for the English language.

She opined that there was a need to bring back proven best practices to improve the standard of English in schools.

Mary said the Education Ministry was aware of the issue of the English Language, which had been constantly debated in the media, particularly the unfavourable results on English proficiency in the Ujian Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) examination.

“That’s why the Ministry of Education is seriously looking into ways and means to address this issue in line with the government’s transformation programme.

'Jerangkap Syaitan'

In ESL (English Language Society), we always give our full support for the activities conducted by the other clubs in our college. Recently, Nadine Fae (5PPN) and Carl's Evert (4BK) performed a poetry entitled 'Jerangkap Syaitan' (Devil's Ploy). The one day poet competition organized by our club sister, Malay Language Society, is centralizing on drugs abuse.

And guess what? They got the FIRST place!

We're proficient in English, and excellent in Malay. Jealous much?

The English Language Society (ELS) in collaboration with the College Library was proud to organize ‘Strike a Pose!’ photo-shoot session. The event had tested the students’ creativity in promoting Keningau College Library as the knowledge source. It was also in conjunction with the National Reading Month.

Enhancement and amazing activities were being executed with the aims to encourage reading and to expose students to different divisions in the library which sometimes were overlooked. The deeds would cultivate students’ interest in reading as well as empower the college’s library as the hotspot to gain knowledge.

There are two challenges:
1) Imitating the Poses on Book Covers.
